The Parents as Partners Online course put on by The Suzuki Association of the Americas has started and I have already been inspired! One of the videos sent on Monday is titled ‘listening like a maniac’. In a nutshell, what this teacher (and Suzuki parent) is suggesting, is to create a playlist (or just use the ‘repeat one’ function), and listen to 3 pieces each 10 times in a row. These pieces are the working piece, and 2 following.

To me, this sounds refreshing. As a parent, I realize it is difficult – but I am very willing to put in the effort to set this up and do all of the extra listening along with my daughter. I still remember learning Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in a short amount of time when I was about 14. I was amazed at how EASY it was to play even the most difficult passages. All I listened to for weeks was this concerto – and I had it playing all the time – in the car, in my room, in the kitchen, on my disc-man, wherever I was, this concerto was with me.

So – I am accepting the listening like a maniac challenge. Both for my daughter’s violin pieces, as well as for the pieces that I am learning on violin.

Week 1 will include Twinkle A 10x, Twinkle B 10x and Twinkle C 10x for K, and for me it will be Allegretto, Andantino and Etude. Here we go!

Suzuki Association of the Americas is hosting Parents as Partners online. What a neat idea, and so wonderful for all the Suzuki families and teachers out there! What I’m getting from this is it will be a bunch of videos that will uplift the parents, and give us all of the answers. And as for me as a teacher – motivation and ideas in January – Thank you!

I’ll be there, and so will some of the parents from my piano studio.

Thanks SAA!

Check out their flyer to see more about it.
